Hello! My name is Robyn, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce myself to you as a dedicated and experienced teacher and tutor. With a passion for education and a commitment to student success, I am confident that I can provide the support and guidance needed to help your young learner excel academically. I have been living in Edinburgh since I undertook my degree in Physics with Environmental Science at Heriot Watt, and it has given me a strong interest in the area of Climate Change and the science that accompanies it. In my own time, I am an avid traveller, immediately seeking out the local cuisine of the destination and bringing culinary techniques home with me. My next big trip will be the summer in Kenya and Tanzania!
I bring 6 years of experience teaching and tutoring Physics and Science within Scottish high schools, and have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities. With years of experience adhering to the SQA marking policies and expectations, I am well-placed to help your young learner not just with content knowledge, but detailed information on exactly how to present their answers in order to score the marks they deserve. I have experience tutoring on a one-to-one basis, but also in small group and large group settings. These experiences have allowed me to develop strong communication skills, the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, but also to recognise when a methodology just isn’t working for a learner. If this does happen, I want to have created the environment where your learner feels comfortable enough to tell me so, and we find a method that does suit them for that concept, leaving them feeling confident and ready to continue.
Throughout my career, I have developed a personalised approach to tutoring that focuses on understanding each student's unique learning style and needs, and helping them learn the skills to recognise this for themselves. I am passionate about empowering students to develop lifelong learning skills and studying techniques, allowing them to reach their full potential. I accomplish this by fostering a supportive learning environment, where the learner becomes able to pinpoint their own strengths and weaknesses, and together we create our plan of action.
