Hi there, my name is Oli and I am a secondary school History teacher based in High Barnet. I am Head of History at my school and I have 7 years teaching experience at secondary school level. Moreover, I also teach Classical Civilisation and Government and Politics at GCSE and A-Level, which I also lead as Head of Department. I have also been tutoring for around 3 years to supplement my salary. I have experience teaching students from Year 7 all the way to Year 13 (upper-sixth) both teaching and tutoring. I teach students of all abilities, including Gifted and Talented, EAL and SEN.

I went to the University of Nottingham to study degrees in Ancient History and History, so my historical knowledge is broad and eclectic.

I am available all weekday evenings for 1-2 hours and on weekend mornings for up to four hours. Tutoring Experience

I went to the University of Sussex, in 2014, to complete my PGCE, where a gained valuable experience in two very different placements. I have been teaching at a state secondary school in Barnet for the last 6.5 years, where I have gained vast experience in teaching engaging, differentiated and varied lessons for students of all abilities and all ages (KS3-A level). Furthermore, I have also been running the school rugby club for the last two years. This has undoubtedly developed my skills in building strong, professional, relationships with the students, which has had a positive impact back in classroom.

Tutoring Approach

I run my tutoring sessions like a class of just one student. Every lesson has a powerpoint, which is sent to the student/parent at the end of the lesson. Moreover, every lesson has a practice question from a past paper and I focus strongly on exam technique.
