Helma

I grew up in Limburg an der Lahn, near Frankfurt/Main, Germany and lived and worked in or around London for over 30 years. I hold a diploma in commercial and industrial interpreting and an RSA Certificate in teaching foreign languages to adult learners acquired at Harrow College, London. (My academic qualification documents will be shown and translated at the first lesson)

Tutoring Experience

For the past 25 years I have been tutoring students of all ages, from age 4-83, different abilities and educational backgrounds on a one-to-one basis from home or via zoom or skype. This has included beginners, A/S, A1, A2, B1 and B2 - level pupils/learners and Open University students.

Prior to becoming a qualified teacher I worked as a bilingual legal secretary in the City of London, proof-reading and editing German correspondence and often providing commercial translations into German or into English.

Tutoring Approach

Many of my students, having started with tuition, tend to keep learning for several years. They tell me that they enjoy the friendly and relaxed atmosphere I can provide, which also comes across in online meetings. I am good at adjusting and responding to the student's nature, needs and interests which helps to build their confidence, ability and motivation. As I am a native speaker, students will pick up the correct pronunciation. I love the German language and hope to share my enthusiasm with many more pupils and adult learners. I am glad to add that I have managed to help one of my students to apply for and get a permanent position in Central Munich. One year later he is still enjoying life there.
