Information About Kateryna - Glasgow teacher

Personal Description:

I am a professional cellist with 19 years of playing experience. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Kyiv Music Academy in Ukraine and an ABRSM Diploma in Music Teaching (ARSM). I am currently completing my fourth year of studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. I perform actively in a wide range of projects, from classical to folk and contemporary music. I am a member of the duo Progressive Time, the folk trio Dukach, and the orchestra Culture Code. These experiences give me a broad musical perspective, which I bring into my teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught six beginner students of different ages, ranging from children to adults. My experience includes helping students take their very first steps on the cello, from learning how to hold the instrument and bow correctly to playing simple melodies and gradually progressing towards more advanced pieces. I also support students who wish to deepen their knowledge of music theory alongside practical cello playing.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching philosophy is to make music lessons enjoyable, engaging, and tailored to each individual student. I believe learning the cello should be inspiring rather than overwhelming, so I often use creative exercises and games to make the process fun. For hobby learners, I focus on building confidence, enjoyment, and self-expression, while for more advanced or ambitious students, I provide a structured approach with solid technical foundations. I also place great importance on creating a friendly, supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable to learn and make progress at their own pace.

Lessons are available in English or Ukrainian, in Glasgow (in person, including home visits). I can also provide a student cello (3/4 size) for complete beginners before they purchase their own instrument.
