Tutoring Experience:
I have 10 years experience of giving grinds to secondary school students, children and university students.
Approach to Grinds:
My teaching approach involves identifying areas of the curriculum that the student wants to focus on, or to plan an overall timetable to cover the entire course as the year progresses. My teaching uses readings, notes, visuals and is practically orientated. I use real world examples to make it easy for the student to relate to the content. I have always taught students struggling with concepts and focus on understanding concepts and basics. Building upon this as we progress.
Tutoring Experience:
I completed the "Teaching for Learning" course with the Commonwealth for Education Trust & "Learning how to Learn" with Deep Teaching Solutions. I also completed "School Health for Children & Adolescents" with the University of Colorado. I studied behavioural science at 3rd level.
I have 10 years experience tutoring in senior cycle and junior cycle science and chemistry and Biology. I also tutored in college in chemistry and maths.
I have experience teaching special needs children.
Approach to Grinds:
I have a practical and objective approach to tutoring. I do an initial casual consultation with student and/or parent(s)/guardians to get an understanding of where you are in your studies. I get to know the knowledge gaps and the learning style of my students.
I use various methods e.g. mind map's, mnemonics to help students depending on whether the challenge is memorisation, understanding or retention of information (or all).
I apply my teachings to each students learning style and strengths with appropriate breaks. I teach good revision strategies and routines for retention of information, that are easy to apply.

She gave me a lot of confidence in tackling my project work. Easy to communicate with from the get-go and put me at ease. As someone who has ADHD, I struggle with some areas of study in university and such a case I sought help from Orla. Working together, she was both quick and diligent in getting me to the end goal. I'd really recommend Orla as a tutor, you won't regret it.
