Personal Description:
Hello, I am Kaveesha. As an educator at heart, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and expertise with others, particularly with children.
With a strong academic background, I hold a Master of Evaluation from the University of Melbourne and a Postgraduate Diploma in Community and Critical Psychology from York St John University, UK. My academic credentials also include an Honours Degree in Statistics with Computer Science, with a comprehensive foundation in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Notably, I achieved a Distinction (A grade) in Mathematics under the GCE Advanced Level Examination.
Professionally, I have leveraged my skills and expertise in various roles. Following the completion of my BSc degree in 2009, I worked as a Statistical Data Analyst at a strategic consulting firm based in the USA. In 2011, I transitioned to a role that aligned with my passion for community work, serving as Head of Research at a non-governmental organisation.
Currently, I am the Senior Performance Analyst Lead at the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Victoria, where I continue to apply my analytical and leadership skills to drive positive outcomes.
Tuition Experience:
I held the position of Visiting Lecturer in Marketing Research at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, where I taught third-year undergraduate students from November 2011 to September 2016. Additionally, I have extensive experience in tutoring mathematics students across various educational levels, including primary, high school, and college, in multiple countries (Sri Lanka, England, and Australia) since 2010.
Tutoring Approach:
I approach each tutoring session with unwavering confidence in my students' potential. Recognising the challenges often associated with mathematics, I prioritise building their confidence and fostering a positive learning environment. I am committed to providing patient and thorough explanations, ensuring that students fully grasp each concept before progressing to new material. This approach enables them to develop a deep understanding of mathematical principles and theories.
In mathematics, I encourage students to explore multiple problem-solving strategies, promoting flexibility and critical thinking. To reinforce their understanding and improve efficiency, I emphasise the importance of practicing additional problems. This not only enhances their proficiency but also helps them manage time effectively during examinations.
To ensure students achieve their full potential, I encourage them to complete regular homework assignments, which helps solidify their understanding and build momentum in their studies.
