Cambridge graduate and fully qualified teacher (secondary PGCE) specialising in Mathematics and Music.
I have been a secondary school teacher for 11 years, and have tutored privately on and off during that time. I have experience of tutoring mathematics and teaching music to students aged 7 to 70-something!
My approach is dependent on your needs, but my lessons are generally characterised by a relaxed and friendly environment. I believe the most valuable learning is not to be had by hurrying, and will encourage students to dwell deeply on ideas or practise until skills are second nature, rather than rush to the 'next' thing. In either subject, learning is most effective when the student takes charge; bring me your questions and sticking points to get the most out of our sessions.
As a music teacher, I have prepared many students successfully for ABRSM exams (with 100% pass rate), but am equally happy to tailor are more responsive and personalised trajectory with you that does not focus on gaining qualifications. Likewise, mathematics students are usually focussed on examination and I have lots of experience of teaching maths and further maths successfully to A-level, but I will also try to encourage a curiosity and enjoyment of the subject beyond its utility for exam passing! For me, music and mathematics are equally recreational pursuits.
