I have had 8 years' experience teaching mathematics to pupils of age 11 - 18 of all abilities including A level.
During my time at Southampton University I tutored undergraduate seminars and tutorials in philosophy.
I have had about 15 years' experience teaching class music to the 3 - 12 year-old age range, including some piano, violin and viola teaching.
I am a member of SAPERE, a society which promotes philosophy and critical thinking skills in children
In mathematics I try to find concrete examples that relate to the student to develop an understanding of the concepts.
In philosophy I also try to find issues and scenarios that a student can relate to, as well as going through and discussing relevant exam material if the student is more advanced and taking an exam. I show them how to write a good philosophical essay if this is needed.
In music I use songs, games and activities to develop co-ordination and aural skills. This leads to an understanding of music theory and better playing of the student's instrument if they wish to learn one.
