I am American and have been living in Eastbourne for the past four years. Before England, I lived and taught in Saudi Arabia, Thailand, South Korea, the USA and Ghana. I have fifteen years experience teaching and thirteen years ESL experience. My teaching philosophy consists of teaching the fundamentals of the English language by focusing on the exchange of cultural, political, and traditional experiences.
I began teaching International Law and Diplomacy to high school (sixth form) students through a leadership programme at American University in Washington D.C. as well as at Pace and Columbia Universities in New York City. I then went to Ghana and taught English to secondary school students as a volunteer for six months. In Korea, I taught English to primary, secondary, sixth form, as well as university students. I did this at a private school and at Catholic University. I taught at King Faisal University, in Saudi Arabia. In Thailand, I taught adults at a private language school. More recently I have been working at a couple of local language schools here in Eastbourne with students who vary in age, from ages 13-83. I am both CELTA and DELTA certified. I have taught general English as well as test preparation courses for TOEIC, IELTS, and Cambridge exams (KET, PET, FCE, CAE).
I teach each student based on their specific needs and goals. Initially, I would analyse a student's academic level through a short chat as well as a short needs analysis test. Once I have a better understanding of that student's requirements, I will then comprise a curriculum based on those demands and long term goals. I strongly believe that developing confidence is the best approach to learning any subject and I try to instill confidence-building in my lessons. I also adapt lessons depending on that learner's learning style in order to enhance their confidence. This will hopefully help them to successfully reach their eduacational aims.
