I am an extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and experienced subject specialist teacher who has over twenty years experience in the Education sector. I have taught in colleges of Further Education, Pupil Referral Units and Mainstream Schools. My aim is to work innovatively for the enhancement and development of the kind of education delivered today. I use humour, imagination and innovation in the learning environment in order to encourage a positive creative culture amongst students. I have an excellent track record with students and have the ability to make students feel at ease and relaxed about their studies.I have outstanding references that are available upon request.
When I left school I trained as a ballet and contemporary dancer for three years and after graduating I then worked successfully for over twenty years as a performer, choreographer and teacher of dance and movement. However, the rigorous life of a dancer left me with an ankle injury which forced me into “early retirement” at the tender age of 33 years! I then decided to retrain and study at University reading English and Drama. I passed with a first class honours degree. I then continued my studies for a fourth year when I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Since graduating I have, for the past six years, taught English to students in Further Education and have tutored students in their homes working towards various qualifications such as: KS1 SATS, KS2 SATS, KS2 Intensive SATs Preparation Courses, 11+, Entrance Examination Preparation, IELTS, new GCSE and IGCSE specifications, Functional Skills and Adult Literacy qualifications. All students tutored by me this year have all passed their examinations with flying colours and 2023 is my 20th year that sees 100% success rate in children sitting Entrance Examinations and/or passing the 11+. In 2020 and 2021 students sitting their GCSE English Literature and English Language obtained excellent grades with 95% of students obtaining a 7, 8 or 9 level. In 2022 75 % gained at least one level 9. In 2023 students gaining a level 9 increased to 80%. I can't wait for this year's results! Well done to you all!
I believe passionately that “Every Child Matters” and safe guarding is of paramount importance to enable each individual learner the opportunity to flourish and grow, regardless of their previous experiences. This is why before the first session commences parents are shown hard copies of all my qualifications and current DBS certificate. Within my sessions and tutorials I have outstanding skills in differentiating learning activities to suit each individual and each class is planned in line with the National Curriculum. However, invariably parents and carers have contacted me because they have identified that their child needs some additional support and there may well be gaps in their knowledge that need revising. My professionalism and highly effective tutoring abilities, coupled with my superb inter-personal and communication skills enable me to liaise with students, colleagues, parents and other professionals in an effective and calm manner. I teach and plan sessions specifically for the examination board your child is studying on. I teach Intensive Revision Days for: Key Stage 2 SATs Preparation Courses and GCSE English Literature Revision Courses.
