I currently teach at a local secondary school. I am active in local politics and retreat to art and crafts as a way of relaxing. I have three children, a rather anti-social cat and a lovely partner.
I completed my teacher training in Australia in 2001 and have loved teaching ever since. I have taught a variety of subject areas, including mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry, health and social care and information technology. I first taught at a school for girls in Melbourne, Australia, for one year before moving to the UK. I have taught at schools in Surrey and Hampshire. I have also worked with young children developing speech, language and communication skills and I mentor adults in public speaking and leadership.
The thing I love best about teaching is the one-to-one relationship that develops between teacher and student. It's really special and quite rare in the hustle and bustle of a classroom. I love the opportunity to guide a learner towards understanding, to help them build confidence in themselves, not just the area I teach in. I like to try to show how my subject relates to the 'real world' as much as possible.
