Hi I'm Umair and I study medicine. I love medicine because it makes you think critically under pressure and helping to alleviate a patient's pain or suffering is incredibly rewarding.
I have more than 550 hours of experience tutoring maths and the sciences at KS3, GCSE and A level with over 20 5* reviews
The best way to learn and retain information is active recall and spaced repetition. These two techniques combined mean that you are constantly testing yourself and strengthening neural links which improve memory. I incorporate these when I am revising myself and also when I am teaching.
When I was doing my A levels and GCSEs, I found doing exam questions to be the most useful way of learning and preparing for exams. I incorporate these into lessons as much as possible because it encourages active recall and helps you become comfortable with exam technique. Doing exam questions in the lead up to exams and getting feedback on these can lead to you jumping multiple grades. On the other hand, focusing on covering content in sufficient depth and understanding is also key.
I have a lot of knowledge on university applications and interviews. I have been an examiner for mock medicine interviews and offer feedback and guidance to prospective medical students on the best way of answering difficult questions under pressure.
I have done teaching for my fellow medical students over the past few months on anatomy and physiology which can be quite intellectually and conceptually challenging to learn through medical speciality societies.
