I graduated from my Biology course at the University of Sheffield in 2010 and I've worked with children and young adults ever since, always enjoying the enthusiasm, imagination and fun-loving environment that comes with it and always providing education whether formally or otherwise. As I began to take on more roles related to education I developed a passion for helping young people get the most out of their education and decided to train as a secondary school teacher in Science, covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
I trained as a PGCE student at Goldsmiths and received a stimulating and progressive education in how to teach secondary school science, with a focus on creativity, closing attainment gaps and social constructivist approaches. My training included placements in two inner London secondary schools and I've been working in a third for two years. In this role I've taught all three sciences at GCSE level as well as A Level Biology.
My approach to teaching is centred around the student's understanding of the specification, I aim to build confidence in their learning up to a point where they can explain the key ideas fluently. I focus on frequent questioning to guide their thinking towards mastering concepts. This combined with exposure to practice exam questions and attention to exam technique puts students in an excellent position to succeed in public examinations.
