For the last eight years I have been have been teaching geography at KS3, GCSE and A level in north and west London. I am currently employed as a Head of Geography in an Outstanding secondary school in west London.
My personal strengths include excellent lesson planning and creation of resources and vast subject knowledge. This is supported by my 'outstanding' review in my most recent lesson observation. I also work As an examiner giving me a greater understanding of the exam board requirements in order to best support the students that I work with, I have used these skills to help students achieve outstanding grades for their controlled assessments and help students become more self-motivated and prepared for later life.
Secondary Head of Geography (Sept 2009 - present)
I am currently employed as a Head of Geography in an outstanding comprehensive school in West London.
Examiner
I have marked GCSE geography papers for Edexcel for the past 4 years
Private Tutor (2009-2011)
I have tutored a number of students in both Geography and Maths and helped them to achieve results that exceeded their expectations.
EFL Teacher (2007-2008)
After completing my undergraduate I took a CELTA course to teach English as a foreign language. I lived in Vietnam for a year where I was employed as a full-time EFL teacher. I taught young learners between the ages of 6 and 18. These were further broken up into 3 different age groups and 7 different ability levels. I have also taught English to adults at a number of summer schools.
I think that it is really important to plan the tuition sessions to fit the needs of my individual student and I am committed the achievement of every student that I tutor. Working as a teacher in a 11-18 Secondary School means that I have access to a wealth of teaching resources and I am constantly learning new techniques to bring the best out of my students. I also work as an examiner for the Edexcel exam board with gives me a valuable insight into the exam expectation. I have been particularly successful when using past papers to help identify areas for improvement and I use a range of strategies to improve exam technique so that students are able to achieve to their full potential. My most recent turee achieved an A* in his geography GCSE which was a significant boost from his school's predicted target of a C grade. He has also chosen to continue his studies to A level after developing a love for the subject.
