Hello folks my name is Tom, I'm am a qualified Science teacher, with my specialism and passion being Physics. I am working in a school in West London rated as Outstanding by Ofsted.
I have a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with Renewable Energy, from the University of Edinburgh.
I have also since then accumulated 8 years of professional experience working for large multinational blue chip companies involved in oil and gas, industrial process water treatment, product manufacturing, nuclear & renewable energies, and technical sales.
I have literally been all over the world, and paid to do so, because of my high abilities in maths and science. I want to help budding scientists and engineers to do the same. I can also offer career planning advice and CV writing.
I provide a comprehensive private tuition service and care a lot about the success of my tutees, providing further study aids & resources for the student whenever needed. I sometimes have equipment for our lessons to help demonstrate, e.g. an electronics kit.
I aim to provide a personable teaching style and promote two way conversations that will lead to a fuller understanding of the curriculum content, and whenever possible the relevance it has in the real world! Bringing it all to life, and as close as home to possible for that individual student, helps tremendously when it comes to digesting and remembering complex ideas. Further to this, for me it has always been about breaking problems down into their most simple form, so actually we don't even need to think too hard at all to solve it.
I am comfortable tutoring any of the sciences or maths up to GCSE level.Just let me know the particular subjects/modules you would like to cover in our sessions then I can tailor them for you personally.
For Physics at A Level, it will be most productive to identify exactly what topics or past exam questions that need practise, so I can plan and execute the lesson effectively.
I am very keen to support learners from all cultures and backgrounds. If English isn't your first language, don't worry, I have developed a useful sense for knowing what people are trying to say even when they don't know the words - this is from always having foreign friends and colleagues.
1:1 tutoring might sound intimidating for your child however I am a friendly guy with good people skills, plenty of experience with teenagers and we tend to get on very well. I like getting to know individuals and finding out what makes then tick.
