I am an experienced teacher and examiner who enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. I have a master’s degree from Oxford and also have a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status. I am passionate about helping people to learn and understand and this led me to undertake research which led to a PhD involving educational theories. I have also worked as a GCSE examiner for Edexcel. I live in South Devon with my wife and two daughters and am happy to tutor in the Plymouth / Ivybridge / Buckfastleigh area.
I am currently a science teacher in a secondary school, teaching all sciences at KS3 and GCSE, and teaching physics and chemistry to A-level. In addition I have experience of tutoring people of a wide range of ages and abilities. This has given me knowledge of a range of syllabuses and courses, including international qualifications. My sessions will be tailored to the requirements of your particular course, as well as to your own particular needs. I have been told that I am patient and supportive, and that I am good at making difficult concepts clear. I am also punctual and reliable.
I will provide the support you need to help you to grow in confidence in the subject. My sessions are student centred, giving you the chance to approach the topics in the way that suits you best, and to make progress without feeling under pressure. I will also work on exam technique with you in order to take the anxiety out of exams.
