Retired after 38 years in teaching, I graduated in 1971 with a Class 2.1 Degree in Physics from Manchester University. . I have been tutoring with success for the past 12 years. Please see my references from former tutees.
Since the early 1970s I have taught Physics and Mathematics to GCSE and A level as well as University Entrance level in a variety of schools in the UK. I have also taught IB in Europe. Most of my teaching career was spent in Independent Schools. I was appointed Head of Department at one of the countries foremost Public Schools when I was 25. Since then I have been in a managerial as well as a full teaching role throughout my career. I have taught various "varieties" of curriculum including Nuffield and Salters Physics and I am in touch with the latest trends in examinations. My main expertise lies in Physics and the Mechanics area of the Higher Maths curriculum.
I enjoy helping people to get to understand what they are learning about in my subject and to help them achieve success. I see my role as an enabler. Physics and Maths can be stumbling blocks for GCSE students and my aim is to get you across that threshold that makes it more accessible. I enjoy enriching my own ideas about the subject and would want to pass on my feeling for it to my tutees. My approach would be informal and would adjust to the needs of each tutee. During the pandemic I would also be prepared to offer tuition via Zoom or equivalent.
