Tamara White Profile
I am an enthusiastic science tutor with school, college and university teaching experience including GCSE Science and A Level Biology, as well as wildlife ecology and zoology degrees. I hold an MSc in Biological Diversity, Sustainability and Environmental Science, BSc in Zoology and teaching and have experience in teaching and tutoring students since 2007.

Most of my teaching and tutoring experience has involved teaching for GCSE Science and A Level Biology courses following the AQA, OCR, SNAB and WJEC exam boards and I have also worked as an AQA Biology examiner since 2015 for both GCSE and A Level.

I have a range of online booklets for each science topic. These include short answer and essay questions for each topic. I also have a bank of practice exam questions with suggested plans and resources to guide students through exam questions and how they are marked.

I have helped a diverse range of students achieve their goals, including aspiring medical and vet students, while others have gone on to study biomedical science and environmental science. Courses I have taught on at a Further Educational level include; GCSE and A Level Biology, Biology for Access to Science, Medicine and Nursing, HND Applied Science, BTEC Lab, Applied and Medical Science and the International Baccalaureate (Biology). At a Higher Educational level, I have taught on BSc Zoology and Wildlife Ecology modules.

I use Zoom and Google Drive to teach online and also provide students with access to online resources in a personal Google drive folder for each student.

I aim to build on previous student experience and review topics as often as needed. Tutoring sessions begin with an introduction or review, main topic questions with diagrams in the form of a topic booklet to help in understanding key concepts and processes and testing of knowledge and understanding with practice questions.

I find it very rewarding to help students grasp complex concepts in science and increase their confidence and exam success. I am happy to either plan the order of the subject content or be advised by students on the topics they would most like to study or revise first. Some of my students are homeschooled or have sports scholarships and have all of their subject learning with me. Some of my students come to me via a further education college for their science learning due to not being able to fit into their timetable at school. Others come to me through their parents to help improve their grade and confidence.

Sessions include a review of previous knowledge, teaching of new content, practice exam questions and a summary write up. I aim to motivate and spark the interest in the subject matter and all resources relate strongly to the required curriculum content.

Tutoring Experience

I have 15 years teaching experience in schools as well as at both Further Education and HIgher Education level. I have taught on a wide variety of courses which include;

• A Level Biology
• GCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)

• A Level Environmental Studies
• International Baccalaureate

• National Diploma in Lab, Medical and Forensic Science
• Access to Science

• Zoology and Animal Sciences at degree level.

Tutoring Approach

Before starting tuition I assess the needs of the individual learner and the subject area where more knowledge and skill is needed. I always provide work booklets as a break down to each subject, including objectives, introductory activities, questions at the level required to discuss and work through as well as past exam paper questions.
Tuition is open to student needs so don't be afraid to say exactly what subject area and skill you feel you need to work on.
