I am a teacher currently work at a private school in Romsey and have taught children from Year 2 to Year 9. I have a specialism in preparing children for entrance exams for private secondary schools and the 11+ grammar schools as well as SATs. I have been a marker for both English and Maths SATs so have an excellent insight into how best to tutor for these. I prefer to work at my home so I have access to all of my resources and can tutor in all primary subjects as well as secondary English and Maths. I also tutor in verbal and non-verbal reasoning. My own qualifications include an English Literature degree and MA from the University of Cambridge as well as Maths up to A-level.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a teacher for 21 years and my positions have included Head of English and Head of Department. I currently work at KES Prep, a private school in Romsey, and have significant experience in preparing children for secondary school entrance exams. I have been a private tutor for 20 years and have tutored children from 6 to 16 years old with a high rate of success for private secondary school exams, SATs and 11+ grammar school preparation, as well as 13+ private school entry.

Tutoring Approach

I am kind and supportive - children will only learn when they feel happy and relaxed - and I have high expectations for all children. 1:1 tutoring can offer high levels of progress and focus on your child’s area of need. I start with an assessment to highlight the key areas for support and then suggest a tutoring plan from this point. I am very honest about your child’s current attainment and communicate clearly and regularly - tutoring only works if it’s a partnership between home and tutor. I have experience in tutoring children of all abilities, including those with SEN needs and those identified as gifted.
