Well established teacher since 1982. Family orientated having 3 children, 5 siblings and more recently a wonderful grandson. Children all successfully through high school and university. My daughter is also a teacher currently working in a primary school in Thailand. I have been tutoring for 10 years now. My students are from both primary and secondary age groups, of varying abilities, from both state or private schools. I'm extremely proud of the progress these students achieve. 95% of all my year 11 students have gained the maximum GCSE level they could from the examining board. My hobbies include all sports, reading and travel. I love to spend time with my family.
Throughout my career I have taught in 3 high schools. I have spent the majority of my career in one high school where I have held various positions including acting assistant Headteacher for 3 years, Pastoral Learning Manager for both key stages and deputy head of the Mathematics department. I was initially employed as a Physical Education teacher.
In my role as a Mathematics teacher I have taught all abilities from Year 7 to Year 11 including additional educational needs students and the most gifted A* students. My strength as a teacher over the past 10 years has been, to target the level 4/5 borderline students. I also achieve success with year 6 students preparing them for their SAT's.
For students to be successful I believe they must feel comfortable with their tutor. All students make mistakes and this is how they learn. Students should not be in fear of something being incorrect. My students thrive from receiving initial feedback in the classroom either from myself, their peers or through self assessment. Students need to know how to improve to make further progress. They need to know what is required of them to achieve the next level. All my students are motivated and strive for success. Tasks set should always be challenging. Yet it is paramount that the learner has the necessary skills to complete the task set so that negative attitudes do not arise during their learning. Building confidence in their own ability is my initial goal.
