I am an enthusiastic tutor who enjoys working with students with a view to improving their confidence and ability in the chosen subject area. My specialist subjects reflect my abilities as well as my interests, as I love reading both English and French books and going to see plays and films derived from good literary works!
I am a qualified teacher of Secondary Modern Languages and also of Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Having taught in France for 2 years, I have also taught in both main-stream education (2006-7) as well as teaching for English Language schools (Anglophiles Academic and Kaplan group 1984 - 2010 intermittent summer teaching).
My experience as a tutor has involved 1:1 tuition to prepare for GCSE examinations in English and both GCSE and A level for French, from 1993 to date. I have also enjoyed teaching French to adults as a tutor for Somerset County Council from 2001-2003. I am currently the French tutor for Cornwall Adult Education, based in East Cornwall (2014-current)
Upon introduction to a new student, my initial lesson includes a fact-find with, if at all possible, both parent and student to discuss their needs and my tutoring approach. This will involve establishing what the main requirements are for the student (i.e.spelling, grammar, essay-writing skills and creativity etc) and the methods and materials I prefer to use. I would expect my students to show motivation and to work
towards their goal by working well with me in class and also by completing a weekly homework task!
