Please note, my University students have now commenced so I am unlikely to be able to take on new students until they get settled in, I am happy to discuss future tuition once this has occurred. I currently lecture at the University of Salford and I have 24 years teaching experience. I am a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a visiting lecturer at Corpus Christi College Cambridge and a visiting lecturer in Sao Paulo Brazil. I am an assessor for academics at University undergoing their teaching qualifications. I have been an external examiner for the Universities of East London, Bradford and Liverpool, this role includes monitoring marking quality, exam board actions ,modifications to syllabus and teaching and learning consultancy. In 2015, 2016 and in 2017 I was nominated by my students for best teacher and best postgraduate supervisor. I offer tuition at my home and some on line support. I began working as a private tutor in 2008. This gives me the freedom to get to know students on an individual basis and adapt to suit their needs and offers me an incredible amount of job satisfaction. Please note however that if you are #/k#a student at the University of Salford I will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest. Also please note that if we commence tutoring that whilst I will do my absolute best to help students, I cannot write assignments for students or guarantee a specific score or grade.
I completed my PhD in Rheumatology in 2009. Privately I mainly teach Biology, science, PE and study skills. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching science to children. I am also able to assist with other health and medical related topics.Prior to working within education I was a Chartered Physiotherapist within the NHS for 13 years . I was the Physiotherapist to the England Women’s football team for three years. I was immensely proud to represent my country, working with such talented individuals both at home and during tours of countries including France, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union. I am an internationally published author, having written and edited nine textbooks which have now been translated into eleven languages, covering subjects as diverse as anatomy, assignment writing.
(My enhanced DBS is available upon request)
I have been tutoring children, A level, GCSE and higher levels privately for many years now. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching.Teaching at a university entails a range of teaching methods including lecturing to hundreds of students, small and large group seminar-based sessions and a mix of theory and practical skills. Since 1998 I have been the Year One tutor which involves a pastoral element as many students are having their first experience of independence away from friends and family.
As a private tutor both in my own home and in the tutee's home I mainly focus on one to one tuition which I find hugely rewarding as I am able to dedicate unwavering attention to the tutee and their chosen subjects. I have experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and ranging in age from 14 years to 50 years.
In 2009 I won the first ever Teaching Excellence Award at Salford University, and the following year was nominated for the Times Educational Innovative Teacher Award - both nominated by my students, a fact of which I am extremely proud.
I can do online if you are struggling to access a tutor but I do not find online particularly productive for the student experience. I have a friendly approach to teaching as I believe a relaxed environment is most conducive to learning regardless of subject or age. However I am fully aware that private tuition is a serious commitment.
I usually teach on a one to one basis for all age groups and am familiar with the syllabus for OCR, AQA WJEC and EDEXCEL for G.C.S.E., A level and degree. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutees requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning. The structure of the sessions are largely dictated by the tutee, The subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style and this can be discussed at the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted in line with this.
Additional Information
Whilst I prefer to teach in my own home under certain circumstances I may be able to travel to the student. This will be subject to the inclusion of travelling costs in addition to the tuition fee. This will be undertaken by prior arrangement; please indicate your requirements on initial contact.
I am also able to offer the additional educational services:
• literature searching
• proof reading
• essay planning
• essay structuring
As I work full time I will require notice to complete any of these tasks and I am unable to write complete assignments as this would be unethical.
Thanks very much for viewing my profile.
