I am Steve, a full-time Head of Mathematics at a Secondary School. I am passionate about providing outstanding education and have excellent subject knowledge, together with experience in teaching and delivering examination results. My most recent examination classes (both GCSE & A-Level) averaged roughly 1.25 grades, per student, above target and my A-Level class attained the highest proportion of A* & A grades since the school began offering the A-Level curriculum.
I have been a qualified teacher for over 10 years and have worked as Head of Mathematics for over 7 years. I have specialized in teaching GCSE and A-Level classes in this time, including A-Level Further Maths. Additionally, I provide small group intervention sessions, in which I focus on guiding individual students towards exam success. I therefore have experience in preparing students for exams and have access to a wide range of resources to support revision: revision booklets, past papers, revision guides, etc. I regularly mark exam papers in my job, meaning that I am familiar with mark schemes and examination techniques which are required to achieve top grades.
I am used to varying my teaching approach to meet the needs of different learners, as I teach students with a wide range of ability levels. When tutoring, I can very quickly pick up a student's level of ability and identify their gaps in knowledge, before addressing them at a suitable pace. I am able to give clear, logically-constructed explanations in order to foster a depth of understanding in a student. Generally, I provide examples and use questioning to build understanding, before providing written tasks and exam question practice to refine understanding and skills. I am able to personalize learning to suit any student, using my experience and depth of subject knowledge.
