I am a fully qualified highly experienced teacher with a proven track record in student progress and examination results . I teach at an outstanding secondary school in Cambridge which is nationally in the top 5% in terms of exam performance and progress.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience and over 10 years of private tutoring experience. I also have a proven track record in examination results. My tutees, on average, have increased their GCSE/A-Level January mock grades by at least two grades by the time they take their final summer GCSE exam. I have also worked for most of the major exam boards as a moderator which has provided me with a deep insight into the GCSE and A-Level examination system; examination technique is a of paramount importance if a student wants to attain the highest of grades. I also coach and help tutees prepare for the annual JMC (Junior Maths Challenge) and IMC (Intermediate Maths Challenge); including the Olympiad and Kangaroo variants.
The first step is always to ascertain the level of knowledge a student already has, often it is much more than they initially realise. Using this information I then formulate a personalised learning programme which helps to ensure that any knowledge gaps are filled; usually by using a combination of theory/content coupled with past paper questions to test students’ understanding. I always ensure a positive and relaxed learning environment, this enables students to feel confident in asking and answering questions; this approach enables students to foster a deeper understanding of key concepts which a renecessary for the more difficult exam questions.
