Tutoring Experience

Having taught English and Drama and led English Departments very successfully in some of the UK’s top independent and state schools, I have also been Head Teacher at two excellent international schools. I have frequently and very successfully tutored for 11+,13+, Common Entrance, Pre-U examinations and the Advanced Extension Award.

An experienced A2 principal examiner and training consultant in English Language and Literature for OCR, I am also currently a senior examiner for CIE (IGCSE English Language) and for the International Baccalaureate - English A: Language and Literature HL Paper 1.

My pupils’ public examination results have consistently been outstanding: none has ever failed at GCSE or Advanced Level and a number have been placed in the top five nationally . They have, moreover, enjoyed regional and national success in a range of related extracurricular activities: public speaking, debating and creative writing. In my most recent post (at Magdalen College School, Oxford), my students achieved 100% grades A/A* at both GCSE and A Level; one was, under my supervision, awarded the school’s ‘President’s Prize’ for her pre-university work in English.
