XiaoYu started tutoring my son around four months before his Chinese GCSE. She practiced many exam-related materials with him and is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. We are truly grateful for her help, and our son has achieved a very satisfying result.

I searched for an online tutor to help my son with his AQA mandarin GCSE because he was struggling with speaking and listening. I am very happy I found Xiaoyu. From the very first email contact she was professional, caring and understanding. She is always punctual and polite.

My son progressed very quickly with Xiaoyu’s help and guidance. She is an incredible teacher and it is very obvious that teaching is her passion in life. Every lesson was meticulously planned and delivered and no second was wasted. She understood very quickly how to motivate and gently push my son to achieve his full potential. She is a very experienced and talented teacher.

When my son started lessons with Sophie he was a grade 6 standard and was in foundation set. After a few months he progressed rapidly to be predicted a grade 7. By the end of the year with Sophie he was far more confident and able and all aspects of his mandarin had improved so much that he reached top of the highest set at his school.

He achieved a grade 9 in his GCSEs this year and he could not have done it without Xiaoyu’s help and support throughout year 11. Thank you so much Xiaoyu.

Sophie is a very kind and patient teacher. She uses a spacial repetitive approach to her lessons which helps consolidate all prior learning. She has been my tutor for the past two years and I have made great progress, which is testament to her teaching talent. I am still engaged and eager to learn and it's all thanks to her! I often find it difficult to commit and attain consistency in my life, however Sophie greatly facilitates this. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone!

As an adult beginner learning a new language can be especially difficult. I highly recommend Sophie as a tutor! I have learnt so much under her tuition and she makes learning Chinese very enjoyable. Alongside the workbook we are going through, she takes time to tailor the lesson to my individual wants/needs through additional vocabulary I am interested in learning, corrects errors in a helpful ways and sends over extra material that are more suited to everyday language. I had Sophie as my tutor for 2 years. Sophie laoshi is very experienced. She is very helpful and has a lot of resources to make learning effective. I liked how she was very aware on what i had to do e.g we focused on speaking a month before the speaking exam as it was the first exam. I have been learning Mandarin for a while but only really progressed when I took her up as my tutor. I am now able to write a 150 word essays in Mandarin. She is nice and very serious about your learning, thus you learn a lot. With her help, I got an A* in CIE IGCSE mandarin as a foreign language!

My 17-year old is extremely pleased with Xiaoyu as a Chinese tutor. Xiaoyu really understands the A-Level syllabus and is proactive about targeting areas that my daughter needs practice with. She's also very responsive to emails and communicates regularly with my daughter between lessons. We've had several lessons already and each time my daughter feels she's making clear progress. The Chinese A-Level exam is a jump up from GCSE-level Mandarin and, thus, studying for it is unexpectedly demanding unless you are a truly native speaker. However, Xiaoyu is a great tutor for those students who are up for the challenge. Highly recommend!

Sophie Xiaoyu Si is an exceptional Mandarin tutor. I've been stufying under her since March. She has been consistent in her teaching approach and is very reliable and accomodating. I am happy with the progress I am making, which is much better than I have in the past on my own. She is very patient with me and her lessons are fun and tailored to my needs.

My daughter needed a mandarin teacher as her mandarin teacher in school suddenly resigned. She struggled with the replacement teacher and lost confidence in her ability even though mandarin to her was a difficult subject to grasp. I found Xiaoyu online and she was a perfect match! She worked with my daughter, truly gave it her all. Mandarin exam this year’s GSCE exam was particularly difficult and my daughter that was predicted a Low grade made an A! . Xiaoyu taught her to be confident and she teaching technique and warm approach boosted my daughters confidence. Great teacher!

My goal was to be able to read and write Chinese for daily use with the potential of it expanding its use into the workforce. Starting at HSK1, I worked my way up to HSK4 under Xiaoyu's guidance.

Although you have to work hard to really let the language sink-in (as with any languages), Xiaoyu made each of the lessons manageable and fun (she's also very accommodating to your time schedule) so that it did not become overwhelming or a chore. If you're considering taking the HSK exam, she will tell you honestly which level she feels you are capable of. I managed to achieve 88% in the exam which I feel is a testament to her teaching methods considering I started not being able to read and write at all.

I now use Chinese in my daily life with friends and can converse quite confidently through most topics. Highly recommend this teacher if you have a clear end goal in mind.

My lessons just started recently: Xiaoyu is really helpful and professional and teaches Chinese culture as well as the language.

Sophie has provided excellent for support for my son in his preparation for his GCSE. She has adapted to help him prepare for specific tests whilst building his vocabulary and self-confidence.
All work has been done online and been very effective.

We are so lucky to have found Sophie as a Tutor for Chinese Mandarin for my 9 year old daughter. She is an excellent teacher. She makes sure that you fully comprehend the current lesson before continuing onto the next chapter. My daughter has been going to Sophie on a weekly basis since Sept 18.
