Sophie

I’m a qualified teacher with a diploma in Montessori Pedagogy with a passion for fostering confidence and curiosity in learners. My teaching journey has given me extensive experience tutoring Early Years and Primary Maths and English, as well as French from Primary to A-level.

Having worked in a variety of educational settings, I’ve developed a range of techniques to support the diverse ways in which children learn. This allows me to take a holistic, child-centred approach, combining hands-on, practical methods with academic structure, where needed. From early skill development through to preparing students for exams, I aim to create nurturing, engaging sessions tailored to each child's unique needs and strengths.

Tutoring Experience

Primary:
I have supported students who lacked confidence in English and Mathematics, helping them overcome challenges and regain their footing. By fostering a positive and encouraging environment, these students have grown in confidence and ability, with progress reflected in feedback from teachers and improved reports.

Early Years:
For Early Years, I collaborate with families to create playful and engaging activities that develop key skills like Phonics, early Maths, and Handwriting. I believe in meeting children where they are developmentally. Each child learns at their own pace, and I adapt my sessions to suit their unique interests and needs. Whether it’s through stories, songs, games, or hands-on exploration, I aim to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.

French:
For younger learners taking their first steps in French, I use creative resources like storybooks, songs, and videos to keep sessions engaging. For older students, I incorporate authentic French materials such as podcasts, news articles, and video clips alongside exam-focused resources. As a non-native speaker, I empathise with students, understanding their struggles firsthand. My approach has consistently delivered results, with students improving their grades and even achieving milestones like acceptance into their chosen universities.

Tutoring Approach

I believe the heart of effective teaching lies in strong relationships. By understanding each student’s needs and interests, I tailor my sessions to ensure they are engaged. Tutoring offers the opportunity to explore topics in-depth, free from the pressures of a busy classroom.

For students with Special Educational Needs, I draw on my classroom experience and ongoing Master’s in Psychology to implement strategies that build confidence and understanding. In Mathematics, for example, I use hands-on materials before introducing written tasks, ensuring concepts are clear.
