Sophia

I am an educator, performer, and Songwriter with extensive expertise in the Popular Music field and combined excellence in the academic field of Vocal Performance, Song-Writing and Popular Musicology.

I am currently working on my original EP consisting of five original songs which I wrote and co-produced to be released in 2022. I am an an active co-writer, co-composer and vocalist for TV, Series and Film, signed with Crucial Music Group and Imaginary Friends Music Group, working alongside Media Composer Adonis Aletras and working on an NFT Music Project to be released in the coming months.

During my BA and MMus studies, I have conducted research projects on Feminism in the Popular Music Industry, Necromarketing, the influence of TikTok in today's music industy and NFTs. I am passionate to always keep updated on current debates and bussiness news. My Master's research project, titled "The Soft Vocal Quality Taking Over Popular Music" looking at the distinct vocal timbre produced through False Vocal Fold Vibration that is becoming increasingly prominent in Popular music, especially looking at Billie Eilish's impact and sonic influence and Contemporary Pop. This project massively developed my knowledge and specialisation in Vocal Technique and Popular Music.

Tutoring Experience

My extensive performing experience such as representing Cyprus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014, being the Opening Act performer for Eros Ramazzotti in 2019 (Limassol, Cyprus - Vita Ce Ne World Tour), Opening the Madame Figaro Award Show in 2015 and performing at the Cypriot Presidential Palace multiple times are a few of my career highlights. These experiences have given me invaluable insights to what it means to be a performer all of which I am very keen to share with my own students.
Pursuing my Master of Music in Popular Music at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music since September 2020, I have discovered my passion for teaching through the module of Practical Pedagogy. Through my professional placement with the RNCM Young Company, I had the opportunity to guide and teach Vocal Performance students, through creating custom curriculum and tailored lesson plans over several hours. This experience has given me valuable foundations in practical pedagogy and a good understanding of different teaching methodologies and approaches. I have developed my teamwork and leadership skills through being part of theatrical teams such as the Cyprus Theatrical Organisation and Cyprus Performing Arts since a young age. In the last few years, these skills were developed through opportunities such being selected to participate in a songwriting camp hosted at CODARTS during which I worked in rotating songwriter teams 12 hours daily for a week, to present and pitch four fully produced and recorded songs to representatives from SONY and BMG for their current artist roaster.

Tutoring Approach

Working alongside and learning from Vocal Specialist Dr Ron Morris & Andrew Heggie at the RNCM have given me invaluable insights to vocal anatomy, vocal health, and stylistic performance techniques across all genres. I also had the opportunity to learn about and explore with, different teaching methodologies such as Dalcroze, Kodaly and Estill. I recently had the honour to teach undergraduate Performance students at BIMM Institute Manchester, with a responsibility to diagnose and consult using individually designed and tailored Vocal Development schemes to unlock my students’ full potential as all-rounded that can thrive in today's music Industry. My students have enjoyed exploring their musicianship, rhythm and vocal skills, with a private vocal student of mine enjoying success going through the first round of The Voice Kids, with another student playing the leading role in The Addams Family at the Young Company in Manchester.
