Thank you for viewing my profile!
My name is Sian and I live in Crawley, West Sussex but am originally from Anglesey. I have a young daughter and have been a teacher for over 20 years and have seen many changes in that time. I understand the challenges that young people face in educational settings. I became a SEN and EAL teacher because I am passionate about creating inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. I am fascinated by the unique strengths and challenges that come with neurodiversity, and I enjoy finding creative ways to support students in developing their skills and confidence. Working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds is incredibly enriching, as I learn so much from their experiences and perspectives. It is a privilege to be part of their educational journey and witness their growth as they navigate new challenges and celebrate their successes.
I am a qualified teacher and dyslexia specialist with over 20 years teaching experience, originally as a MFL and EFL teacher in a secondary school but now work with students from Key Stage 2 up to and including university level. As well as private tuition, I also work part time in a local school, working with students on a one-to-one basis to help them with study skills or any other challenges and I also conduct and complete the paperwork for students’ access arrangements. I am committed to keeping my practice up to date and regularly attend training to keep my lessons relevant for students.
All lessons are multi-sensory and cumulative; I also train students on the use of assistive technology, to support independent learning, use in the workplace and for examinations. I currently only tutor online or in schools.
Please note the prices for different session lengths. All students are provided with membership to the website IXL and other bespoke resources for students to practise at home.

Tuition is tailored to each student and follows a structured, multisensory, and cumulative approach, essential for effective specialist teaching. Each student's program starts with a detailed profile and lesson plan designed to maximize their learning and development.
Some of the interventions I offer are:
Sounds Write (phonics for primary school)
That Reading Thing (phonics for 11 years - adulthood)
That Spelling Thing
For lessons longer than 30 minutes, we would also work on grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading and/or study skills. What we cover will depend on you, or your child's needs.
