I have a massive passion for both psychology and teaching. I aim to inspire and help the growth of learning for the future generation of psychologists.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching psychology for over 10 years, I am currently a specialised leader in education (psychology) and leader of learning and teaching (whole school) at a sixth form in Sutton Coldfield. Prior to this I was head of A-Level psychology at a sixth form in Coventry for 4 years.

Psychology has been the most successful A-Level at both my current and prior sixth form with our past rate at 100% at both AS and A-Level.

Before teacher assessed grades (pre COVID-19)
Our 2017-18 results were outstanding with 84% of our A-Level students achieving A*-B and 48% at A*-A. My AS results were 100% A-C. Retention for AS to A-Level is 95% students normally pick 4 A-Level subjects at our sixth form and drop one once they have completed their AS year. The exam board that I teach at is the AQA A board, I have also been an AQA examiner for the past three years. (Pre-COVID19)

I also have qualifications in both mentoring and in coaching.

Tutoring Approach

I possess a multi modal approach in my teaching and believe it is important to instil and develop the exam skills (AO1/2 and 3) which is needed to tackle the exams. I prefer both teacher and student led activities and mentor students to be independent and critical thinkers. These skills are essential and can be transferable to higher education or in an apprenticeship setting.

I have a meticulous approach in assessing students strengths and identifying their less confident areas. I use a range of assessment techniques to develop their confidence when approaching their exams for both short and extended writing tasks.
