"Shanta is determined to want us all to do well and the lessons I receive from her are very effective because it makes me understand complex things when it's broken down or in a more simple way. Her teaching style is very good because she pushes me to try to do my best even if I find it very hard, and what makes the lessons even better is that she's very friendly and I don't feel judged at all even if I do get the easiest questions wrong, and she doesn't rush me at all, so I would recommend her to anyone 100/10 :) " - Reena, Student (2024)
Hello, my name is Shanta! I have been tutoring for 10 years now. I have worked as a teaching assistant at a secondary school in South-East London for the 3 years and in the last 2 years I have been working in Education Recruitment. I am an enthusiastic, friendly and hard-working person and believe in a tutoring approach that is friendly, patient and tailored to the student’s needs. Everyone is different and so teaching methods need to be adapted to each student.
Furthermore, I studied at a private secondary school and in my GCSEs I attained an A* for Maths, A for Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Religious Studies. In the school that I work for at the moment, requires me to work with children in the classroom, differentiate subject material for each subjects and hold intervention sessions with small groups. I believe that this shows that not only do I know the subject material well but I am also capable of teaching these subjects to children and meet their educational needs.
I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring for 10 years now and working as a teaching assistant for 3 years. I have taught many children from different schools and diverse backgrounds. My students have ranged from primary school up to students doing their GCSEs.
Privately, I mainly tutor Maths, English and Science. I have also tutored Religious Studies too. All the students that I have tutored have increased with a minimum of 2 grades, but my main aim is that my students leave my sessions a little more confident each time. It brings me a great sense of happiness and satisfaction to see a child reach their full potential and to see them grow in confidence in subjects that they were nervous about before.

Fantastic, professional and friendly young lady who helped my son massively in both ability and confidence for his GCSE maths resulting in a very high 8 from a very low 5 in his mocks. Would recommend to anyone.

Great tutor! Quickly identified areas my son needed to learn and created a countdown plan of topics to cover in the build up to his exams.
My son finds her friendly and understanding of his difficulties. Shanta is building his confidence with maths and he no longer feels a failure. Would highly recommend!

Shanta tutored my daughter in maths ahead of her GCSEs. She is knowledgeable and patient and improved my daughters knowledge and confidence in the subject.
My daughter looked forward to her lessons with Shanta which was an unexpected, pleasant surprise.
I can happily recommend Shanta, and if my daughter should require tutoring in the future, Shanta will be our first port of call!

Very friendly and proficient tutor. The extra work is helpful but not stressful for my daughter. Great communication and understanding of what help was needed to achieve GCSE standards. Recommended
I have a friendly and patient approach as I believe that teaching methods must suit the tutee. For a child to learn, they need to be taught in a way which is compatible with them. Every child is different and so lessons need to be tailored to the student’s unique way of learning.
Working as a teaching assistant means that I work in the Special Educational Needs (SEN) department. This experience has confirmed to me how important it is to be able to differentiate work and to be able to adapt teaching styles so that children can reach their full potential. I have also worked with children with Dyslexia, ADHD and ASD and have witnessed how a slightly different approach to teaching can make a huge difference.
To achieve these tailored lessons, the first few sessions are used to understand the student and identify what works best for them. The student and I will then form a plan on how we want to proceed each lesson. I give homework, hold regular mini assessments to see a students’ progress, provide a variety of learning resources and working in a school allows me to be up-to-date with the current syllabus.
Note: First lesson is a free introduction and may not take the fully hour/ pay is subject to change with travel/ 24-hour notice is required for cancellations/ Late cancellations will require full lesson payment/ If a student is more than 15 minutes late to the lesson then this will count as a late cancellation and full payment for the lesson will be required
