A native Japanese from Tokyo with the Certificate in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language. Lived in the UK for over 25 years. Specifically trained to teach non-native speakers, so understands challenges which the learners may face. Teaching full time as a profession. Fluent in English, so able to discuss grammar in depth in English. Travelled and worked in New Zealand and Australia before coming to the UK. Through my travels, I met people from many different countries and greatly enjoyed the experience. I live in Kings Norton which is in the southside of Birmingham.
I taught my son Japanese singlehandedly from home without outside help and he got grade 9/A* for both Japanese GCSE and A level. I take on both adults and students ranging from professionals with Japanese connection in business, students who are studying for GCSE/JLPT. Young people who want to live and work in Japan in the future, people who want to watch Japanese anime without subtitles, people who want to visit Japan on holiday and much more. The level of my students range from complete beginners to upper-intermediate. I have also taught groups of both children in play groups and adults at companies. Both group types had some cultural sessions in which I received excellent feedback.
Number of people I teach weekly on one to one bases as of July 2024: over 30 people
I am friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated, and am happy to incorporate various aspects of Japan such as culture, anime, food, travelling etc. into the study to add depth and insight to enrich your learning experience which I believe invaluable. I use Skype and online notepad for online lessons, and for both face-to-face and online, I normally issue 'no obligation' weekly homework unless you opt out, from over 30 textbooks, workbooks, and my own teaching materials which I have accumulated over the years. Lessons normally continue throughout the year including school summer holidays and Christmas.
