I am an experienced tutor, providing high-quality tuition in a range of subjects. I am an MPhil graduate from the University of Cambridge. My undergraduate degree was in History and South Asian Studies from the University of London.
In my free time I enjoy playing classical music which includes singing, clarinet, sitar, and voice. I also enjoy reading, cooking, long walks and travelling.
I am an experienced tutor and teacher in History and Music as well as other humanities and social science subjects. I have worked as an in-person and online tutor for over 7 years, both privately and at top-tier tuition centres across London. In addition, I have given History workshops at different secondary schools across London and the UK, that aim to interest students in Global History.
I have worked as an Outreach Officer for a Widening Participation Organisation, that aimed to increased students of under-represented backgrounds in Higher Education. I taught subjects including History, Modern Languages, Geography and Politics at GCSE and A-Level, as well as helped students with their university applications. Many of my students received higher grades and later landed places at top universities.
I also work as a freelance History research consultant for different organisations across the UK and South Asia. I research, advice and contribute my specialist skills for a range of projects, mainly History documentaries and books.
I have also worked in India as an Art History Researcher, where I researched and curated both ancient and modern South Asian Art and artefacts for numerous galleries and museums across the India.
Humanities:
My approach is focused on creating a tailored and engaging approach that relates to the students requirements, interests and goals.
Firstly, I am confident in the requirements needed by each exam board, and tailor sessions to ensure that students are confident in their core skills associated to these requirements. These can include writing a convincing argument, grammar and syntax, increase of diverse vocabulary, planning and time management and presenting.
I try to create writing assignments and homework that relate to the students own interests so that they can practise their fundamental analysis and writing skills in a creative way.
I ensure to place History education into a broader perspective beyond the textbook. I therefore like to include archival sources, sound recordings and secondary sources into homework assignments. I think it is important to encourage students to think independently and I hope that students develop an interest to explore the subject beyond their set curriculum and resources.
I make sure that my lessons are time-focused and engaging, so that we can go through material in a highly effective way. I expect tutees to be active and attentive during the lessons. Whilst my primary focus is on helping students develop their skills relating to achieving higher marks in exams, I also hope that students develop a long-term and creative interest in their topic.
Music:
I have studied Western classical music since the age of 8. My main instruments are Clarinet, Piano and Voice. I went to the Centre for Young Musicians, a division of the Guildhall School for 10 years, and have been a part of various London based orchestras, choirs and ensembles since. I completed my ABRSM Diploma in Voice in 2016, as well as Grade 8 distinction in Clarinet and Piano.
I am experienced in teaching Music academically and for performance (up-to Grade 5). I can tutor students in instruments privately or with their course work. I have taught at schools, given workshops and given group lessons at Music schools. I am also able to advise on applications to study music in Higher Education (conservatoire or university).
I also tutor on history and themes in Indian Classical Music. I train in Sitar and Hindustani Vocal music, as well as having researched Indian Classical Music history in an academic setting.
