I have a background in math and science. I hold a Bsc in Biomedical Science, Masters in Research and PhD. I have an excellent academic track record.
I work with young children within grassroots football and I am used to all sorts of children and their learning styles. I also have my own children and appreciate the value of nurturing and encouragement within education.
I am professional but caring, I don't get mad when things get hard I just explain in a different way.
I have been tutoring for just over 8 years now with all my pupils showing some level of improvement. Many going up a grade or more and having vastly improved confidence. I also guest lecture in qualitative research methods at Nottingham Trent University. I can provide references if required. I have tutored from primary to University level. I also have experience of handling larger groups of children within my football coaching.
I'm quite easy going I don't like to be to strict as I find students are then scared to ask me questions if they don't understand something. However I do stear the studying with a firm hand and don't let them get too far off topic as it means they aren't using their time with me effectively. I have more of a hands on approach as I like to work through a few examples with the student to see where they are going wrong if they are going wrong so I can correct them at a particular step and I find that tends to help them remember things more. Practice papers are used alongside exam board specific student course books for GCSE upwards. I do set tasks at the end of the session to be completed by the next session to show me if the student has understood it and if they can apply the rational to different questions. I also leave my email address etc so that if the student really struggles with something and does need an answer they only have to contact me.
I have a reference from Diane Frost the mum of one of my GCSE tutees as listed below, she has consented to being contacted by anyone who may wish to employ me.
'Sarah has been tutoring my daughter to GCSE standard in maths and science for the past 5 months. Her grades have gone from a D grade to a high possibility of B grades. I've found Sarah to be very conscientious and motivating tutor who always has time to talk through any worries my daughter may have. Sarah is a very polite and pleasant young lady and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending her to anyone wishing to employ her. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss anything further'
