Hi. My name is Sarah and I am an enthusiastic teacher! My warm and friendly nature has enabled me to work with a number of different children, inspiring them to engage with their learning and make progress across a wide range of subjects. Having qualified in 2003, I have spent the past 15 years developing my teaching skills with primary - aged children from reception up to year 6 and secondary pupils where I am teaching English at key stages 3 and Maths up to Higher GCSE level.
In my spare time I enjoy running, swimming and reading. Just over a year ago, I moved to the North West, where I am originally from to be with my fiance. I love the outdoors, particularly in warmer weather and catching up with friends and family. Having recovered from a prolonged hip injury, I have recently been able to enjoy running again!
After passing my newly qualified teacher year in 2003 in key stage 2 (my class consisted of years 5 and 6), I went on to develop my teaching skills in a variety of schools with pupils from many different backgrounds. This has allowed me to adapt to new environments easily, and build rapports with students. I have worked with a wide age range from reception to year 6, particularly helping pupils for SATs from my Year 6 teaching days! Because of the high success rates of my pupils at SATs level, I went on to teach at secondary level particularly Maths where pupils have progressed in both KS3 and KS4.
Alongside many years of being a Class Teacher, I have worked as a supply teacher working that enabled me to gain a wealth of experience adapting to all year groups across primary years, including helping children with special educational needs. My inquisitive mind, caring and understanding attitude has helped so many children reach their potential. So far in both my classroom and tutoring years, it has been a pleasure seeing children succeed and their confidence grow! This has included working with pupils of secondary age too. Due to Covid-19, I have been teaching more pupils through Skype and I am open to using Zoom.
Recently, I have been preparing students for the Eleven Plus. I cover non-verbal reasoning, maths, verbal reasoning, comprehensions and key vocabulary required for the entry exam. I use CEM and GL resources.
An initial meeting involves assessing your child and having an informal chat to establish the needs of your child. I then provide you with a list of your child's strengths and areas where he/she needs support. Parents have found this really helpful.
I adapt my teaching to suit your child's needs. Having built a bank of resources creating individual resources and utilising past exam practice papers, pupils have progressed. I enjoy making lessons fun, interesting and showing pupils the purpose of learning topics relating them to real life. Having a wealth of experience with tutoring has developed my passion for working with children individually, 'narrowing the gaps' enabling them to 'get on track'. In addition I enjoy helping high-achieving students reach their potential too. I believe every child needs the best chance in life.
