I am a qualified primary school teacher, with 16 years experience and currently work 2 days per week in the classroom. I have a keen interest in supporting pupils with dyslexia and recently completed the Level 5 Certificate in Dyslexia. I am currently completing the Level 7 course to qualify as a dyslexia assessor.
I am mum to two beautiful children so family time is really important to me. In my spare time I enjoy walking our Springer Spaniel, reading and running. I also enjoy socialising with friends and travelling.
I have been teaching for 16 years, both as an infant and junior teacher. I have an up-to-date knowledge of the national curriculum and the assessment requirements. I have worked with children of all abilities and enjoy the challenge that teaching brings. I am currently working part time as an intervention teacher,
whilst completing my studies. I have been able to apply much of what I have learnt on my dyslexia course to my current role. I occasionally work additional days as a supply teacher covering ks1 and ks2 classes. This helps me to keep in touch with current teaching initiatives.
I am happy to tutor pupils of all abilities, from ks1 or ks2.
In terms of specific training, I have attended Read Write Inc training and have delivered this phonics program in several schools. In the past I have tutored pupils from YR up to Y6. I also have some experience of tutoring pupils for the 11 plus. My overriding aim is for children to become more confident learners. I recognise that adjustments will sometimes need to be made to enable pupils to access the curriculum. Where possible, I plan sessions that are practical and interactive, making use of a wide range of resources.
I think it is really important to establish a good working relationship with all pupils. I will strive to make sessions as enjoyable as I can whilst also ensuring learning outcomes are met. Having worked with children with a variety of needs I am confident I will be able to tailor sessions to suit the individual learner. I am confident that my patience and motivation will help your child to make progress and develop key skills. I have access to a wide range of resources which can be used to support and enhance teaching and learning.
