I am a qualified primary teacher and live in the Tettenhall area of Wolverhampton. I attended the Wolverhampton Girls High School and then went onto Birmingham University to complete a degree in Psychology. I then worked as a psychologist for two years and then completed my primary teaching qualifications at Wolverhampton University. I am married and have two daughters. I have a real passion for learning and enjoy passing on my knowledge to children, delivering interactive and engaging lessons. My psychology background has equipped me with the skills to help children gain confidence and inspire them to reach their potential. I am DBS checked.
I have been teaching children in primary schools for the last 18 years. Most of my experience in school has been in Key Stage 1 and 2. Through high expectations and challenging my pupils, a very high percentage of children in my classes achieved or surpassed the standards in Reading, Writing and Maths. I have excellent skills in pushing on high achieving pupils as well as supporting those pupils who are lacking in confidence and falling behind. Through changing my work pattern to part time, I have been able to work as a private tutor for the last 12 years working with children of varying abilities aged 7-11. I have a wealth of experience in supporting children with their Maths and English, state/independent 11+ test preparation as well as SATS tests preparation. I have a great range of verbal and non-verbal reasoning material, as well as a wide range of English and Maths resources. I have achieved a 100% pass rate in the last 4 years for the West Midlands 11+ consortium exam. All 4 of my students gained a place at Wolverhampton Girls High this year. I have vast experience in preparing children for independent schools in the area too. Many of my students have also gained places at Thomas Telford, Thomas Telford UTC & Old Swinford over the last few years.
I also have a fully comprehensive spelling program for children who have difficulties with spelling. All my resources are fully up to date and I have a thorough knowledge of the National Curriculum.
I always tutor on a one-to-one basis as I feel this enables the child to make the best progress. I am a very patient, friendly person putting children at ease from the very first session. I always plan my sessions thoroughly so that I can individually tailor each session to suit the child’s learning styles. I think it’s very important to make learning fun so I always incorporate variety into the session as well as educational games as much as possible. I have high expectations for my pupils which enables them to reach their full potential. I work weekday nights from 3.30pm onwards and tutoring takes place in my home study. I regularly give feedback to parents on pupil progress. Homework is optional.
