I teach English to anyone with dyslexia up to GCSE English Language. I can help with Primary age learners and have had success even with children who have not learned to read in the classroom. I enjoy the teaching process as it is all about connecting with the learner and finding the way that they learn best. I did my dyslexia training with Dyslexia Action. I am registered with PATOSS, the professional body for teachers of students with specific learning difficulties.
I have lived in Spain and Greece and now live in Cornwall.
I started teaching in Spain when I was 23 and haven't really stopped, although it has been mixed with other things. I taught in mainstream schools in Scotland. Then, more recently, I taught adults through Cornwall Adult Education and that was transformative to my work. These people thought they had 'failed' at school because they didn't get their GCSE English Language exam. I had almost 100% success.
It's all about making a connection with the learner and building their confidence. None of us can learn if we feel unsure or unhappy. We know this is true as adults but we seem to forget that it is even more true for young people. But any good teacher knows it to be true.
I use colour and visual aids
