I’m a Cambridge University graduate and qualified English and Drama Teacher with over 5 years of teaching and private tutoring experience, both at a group and individual level. I am a professional actor and graduate of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with a FdA in Professional Acting.
I have 5+ years of teaching and tutoring experience offering online and face to face tutoring for 11+, KS3 students, English Literature and Language GCSE and Literature A Level. 5+ years experience working in Secondary Autism Resource Centre with 40+ Neurodivergent students from ages 11 - 16. I am up to date with both AQA and Edexcel syllabuses, tailoring my tuition for the needs of individual students, from confidence building to demystifying Shakespeare to improving exam technique or working on specific areas of development. I also offer preparation for LAMDA exams, improving exam technique and performance and presentation skills for a range of age groups. I offer mainly online but also do face to face tutoring, particularly with students with autism in the South and South East London area.
Tutoring Approach
My style is warm, interactive, encouraging and thorough. The 1 to 1 or small class format allows for more personalised approach to tuition. I take a holistic view that whilst exam success or a target grade may be the aim of our sessions, enjoyment and confidence are essential underpinnings for any student if they are going to thrive and succeed.
English tuition
I am adaptable and intuitive, working with all levels of ability using a range of
supportive materials which I have developed through my 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring to support successful academic and personal outcomes. Models and examples are used extensively in GCSE and KS3 to guide and structure students' writing.
My advice to students is always, ‘do the hard part first: whatever you find trickiest, be it spelling, a specific section of a Language paper or unpacking meaning from poetry, we will prioritise and work through together at your pace. You’ve got this!’
Oxbridge Preparation
I offer interview training and preparation for students applying for Oxbridge interviews drawing on my personal experience and having participated in an Oxbridge preparation programme whilst at Sixth Form College. Given the competitive nature of the application process, it is important that applicants understand that success is not just about grades but establishing an understanding of the ethos and approach in the Colleges and drawing on wider skills and experience to demonstrate their creativity, individuality and independent thinking. On graduating from Cambridge University, I coached students through successful application and have undertaken motivational sessions for sixth formers. As a successful graduate of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, I draw on my training in confidence, communication and creativity and embed them in all my sessions.
Drama and Performance
I am a professional actor and offer group and individual coaching. I have run drama workshops for children and offer tuition to students taking LAMDA Acting, Speech & Drama and public speaking exams.
Whilst I utilise my drama experience in my tuition to help improve self confidence, interview and presentation skills I also offer self-confidence and interview sessions on a 1 to 1 basis for a range of age groups.
