Hello everyone! My name is Sara and I am from the Canary Islands (Spain), although I now live in Edinburgh. I arrived in Scotland over six years ago to do a six-month internship in the Spanish Embassy Education Office, but after falling in love with Scotland I decided to make it my home.
I have a degree in Spanish Language and Hispanic Literature and a masters in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language - so, as you can imagine, I am truly passionate about teaching my own language as well as sharing and promoting its far-reaching and diverse culture.
Thanks to my linguistic studies background and my personal interest in languages, I have excellent knowledge of the Spanish language - from general things like its origins and present diversity in the world to more particular and rigorous matters, such as grammar, vocabulary, types of discourse, etc.
In addition, I have also provided tuition both privately and in language centres in Edinburgh to people who were looking to learn a new language from scratch or who simply wanted to keep practising and perfecting their knowledge and use of Spanish. Moreover, I have experience in proofreading all type of texts, from narrative to academic works, so if you are looking for someone to give you expert advice during the writing of your dissertation or novel, or to simply brush up your final draft and make sure it is perfect, I would be delighted to help you!
Because learning a language is much more than learning its grammar and vocabulary by heart, our lessons will also focus on the very important part of real interaction and communication in Spanish. I believe that learning a new language should be a holistic process where all aspects of the language are accounted for, not only the purely linguistic ones but also the interactional and cultural sides of it. However, I am more than happy to tailor my approach to your own needs, interests, and requirements, and will always strive to make the most out of our classes. Finally, I wholeheartedly think that honest and good communication between student and teacher is paramount to a great learning-teaching experience, as it provides the very necessary grounds for improvement and growth. Therefore, I will always make sure to check in and ask you for feedback to ensure that everything is going as you wish and whether you would like me to focus or work on something different as you learn.
