My name is Sara and I am a qualified French and Spanish secondary school teacher.
I am originally from Sweden and growing up in a small and rural town, I quickly realised that if I was going to be successful in life, I would have to learn at least another language.
I was very fortunate to have an absolutely amazing Spanish teacher during my A-level studies- a teacher who “got” me and for that I am still very grateful. My confidence grew quickly and with that, my thirst to learn more grew.
After University, I embarked on an adventure to Nicaragua, Central America where nobody spoke anything else other than Spanish and I was confronted with verbs that I hadn’t seen in my A-level book. This opportunity means I have been able to spend a lot of time with native Spanish speakers and truly pick up a colloquial, natural way of speaking, skills which I want to pass onto my students.
Languages are the key to understanding other cultures, and learning them gives you a unique ability to speak to people from other countries with knowledge of their history and culture.
I've always enjoyed learning languages, and I'd love to share my passion. I am happy to guide you or your child through the wild jungle of GCSE, A-level or perhaps you just want to brush up on some holiday lingo?
I have taught Spanish at both Primary, as well as Secondary level, and have had the pleasure in seeing my student’s blossom into young adults with the world at their feet.
Learning a language is not an easy task, especially when in large classes, as there are many different skills to acquire and maintain (speaking, listening, reading and writing), which are all equally as important. They are also, of course, the elements which are examined at GCSE and A-level, and I therefore think it is extremely important to develop strategies to tackle the problems faced by these different tasks, as well as making sure there is a firm grasp of grammar and vocabulary as a foundation.
I try to instill a belief that my students shouldn’t only be happy with achieving something slightly better than they are currently working at, but should instead reach higher than that to make the most of their capabilities.
