Private Maths Tutor in Wirral

I'm Sara, a Maths graduate from Bristol University living in my home town Birkenhead which is on the Wirral. Having spent about 8 years working in the field of IT and data analysis which involved working with Statistics, I decided to pursue my passion for teaching Maths. It had always been a life long ambition of mine to be able to share with others what I am most interested in.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching in mainstream secondary schools and colleges for 16 years. I have taught Mathematics from KS3 to KS5 (year 7 up to year 13) over the course of these years and with great success in terms of outcomes for students in my care. I have worked with a range of students of different abilities and have managed to inspire these students and provide them with the support and encouragement they have needed to achieve their potential. I have been tutoring privately for the last few years through a range of specifications which I am comfortable with, from Edexcel, AQA and OCR at GCSE level. I have a degree in Maths and a PGCE in secondary education specialising in Maths teaching.

Tutoring Approach

I tend on the whole to demonstrate techniques and concepts which are new to students so that they can learn by several examples the methods required. However, I develop these principles from existing knowledge that students have which facilitates their understanding of new topics and gives them the confidence to tackle problems which they may not have seen before. For example, when teaching percentages I explain the connection between these and fractions and decimals which helps them to appreciate what they represent and can be used to calculate.
I work collaboratively with students so that they are directly involved and engaged in the work we are doing. An active dialogue is how a typical lesson is structured with lots of opportunity for questions and discussions.
