In my last full-time job, having joined in January as Head of English, I revamped the approach to exams and ultimately results increased from 47% A-C to 85%. That was in just five months.
I have been teaching since 2003 and have had ample experience with both secondary and primary-aged learners. My 11+ students passed their exams when homework was completed; GCSE and A Level students typically increase their potential by 2-5 grades with a consistent approach to following guidance and completing set homework. In 2022 one of my students achieved top marks in the Literature GCSE and several students scored level 9s; my greatest success though was a year 11 girl who came to me on a level 2 and 3, but then actually attained levels 5 and 6.
I listen to the needs of the learner, identify the needs where relevant, and work to eliminate weaknesses and build on strengths. Homework informs the following lesson and is paramount for exposing weaknesses and improving answers. Lessons continue on an ongoing basis as long as homework is completed consistently.
