Engaging and highly Experienced Mathematics Teacher with Engineering Background.
Maths is fun. I believe in taking students through a learning cycle where they will develop deep understanding of concepts followed by practice using exam style papers. I work with a whole range of material available and not limited to a book or a question bank. I work with students so they can be prepared to take on various level of Olympiads, etc and stretch themselves much beyond the ongoing course and GCSE needs.
I explain concepts very clearly with exam techniques and then keep testing and reteaching based on assessments, preparing students for the exam process. I ensure that students are fully confident for the exam and have worked on their areas for improvement.
I have over 3 years of teaching experience, which includes teaching several GCSE students that have gone on to achieve top grades in OCR, Edexcel and AQA exam boards.
As a Maths Tutor I start with understanding student needs based on a careful assessment of their need and tailor my lessons to meet their specific needs. I like to take a structured and logical approach, breaking things down so it’s easy to understand, and then building them back up again. I find this method to be highly effective with learners of all levels.
In a 1:1 setting I build the rapport with my students and ensure that my students feel confident in their own abilities. Using careful questioning during the lessons, I help them understand that they can find answers and produce high-quality work themselves (rather than always needing to be told what to do).
I start with new students giving them an opportunity to express their areas of need. I then approach each lesson on a week-by-week basis, addressing areas of weakness as they arise while following a general plan based on my initial assessment ensuring that the student is always in the centre of learning process, and they feel motivated to do homework, etc.
My background is Electronics Engineering. I bring in my experience of application of these maths concept in real life to drive interest in the subject. Why someone should learn trigonometry, why probability is so useful and how statistics is applied in various economics concepts, etc. The sense of bigger purpose has driven my students to achieve greater results.
