I am a trained maths teacher who has supported lots of different students over the past 8 years. I have fostered, I am a mum and I love wild swimming.
I am a qualified secondary maths teacher and have worked with all ages of students (aged 11-16) and with a broad range of maths ability (I have taught and tutored Edexcel, AQA and OCR GCSE curriculum for higher and foundation tier).
I spent 5 years working as a lead teacher and deputy manager in an Alternative Provision primarily teaching maths. I have a passion for working with students who benefit from additional encouragement and a personalised approach when it comes to maths education. I am comfortable supporting neurodivergent students or those with specific educational needs and working with them to find teaching approaches that work for them.
I am a maths GCSE exam marker which gives me excellent insight into exam question style and mark scheme as well as common student misconceptions allowing me to focus my tuition towards exam success when required.
I have tutored students for the past 7 years and I really enjoyed the rapid development a student can make with an individualised learning plan.
Feedback from previous tutoring:
'Thank you so much for the help with maths, she is very happy with her results.' Yr 11 Student's Parent
'I think you are an exceptional tutor that we would definitely work with in the future' Deputy Head of a school I supported
'I would just like to say thank you. I've just gotten my results back and I passed maths. Thank you you got me through it' Year 11 student
'I just wanted to let you know how I got on today with my maths paper and just to say thank you because the things we have been covering in the lessons have really helped me today. I'm quite confident I did well , I didn't leave any questions blank and I tried my best.' Year 11 Student
I am of the view that students are motivated by success and when someone enjoys something they are far more likely to succeed. I enjoy developing mathematical confidence in students where it is lacking and I like to use diagrams, objects and pictures to help students visualise a concept and become confident with an idea before expecting them to answer questions independently. I prioritise building fluency with number basics and will revisit quick questions often to ensure that students retain their learning in this area. I also enjoy being able to build good working relationships with the students I work with I using a sense of humour to put students at ease.
