I am an enthusiastic, dedicated and professional tutor with over 12 years teaching experience. My specialist subject is History and I have experience delivering a range of different GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and IB specifications. I also teach Government and Politics at A Level and English Literature and Language to GCSE and IGCSE Level. In addition, I am an A Level examiner in History and have worked for two national exam boards (AQA and Edexcel) for the last 12 years.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked in high performing and selective schools over the course of my teaching career (Exeter School, Torquay Boys’ Grammar School and The King’s School, Chester) I am experienced in delivering both outstanding lessons and exam results. Engaging lessons and effective feedback for learning are key to unlocking student potential.

I am well versed in delivering lessons for Edexcel, IGCSE and AQA GCSE History, AQA, Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE English Literature and Language and OCR, AQA and Edexcel History. I examine A Level AQA History and Edexcel Papers 2 and 3 and can offer good insight to exam technique for these particular specifications.

In school, I have led Oxbridge enrichment lessons for Sixth Form students and have experience in preparing students for the History Aptitude Test. I can also offer UCAS advice and proof-reading services for university applications.

I have worked as a tutor alongside teaching since 2016 and I have tutored a range of topics and specifications. My tutees have included home-educated students and students in mainstream education with various learning needs. Whether as a sole tutor or in supplementation to a school teacher I am confident that my sessions allow my tutees to make excellent progress while building their confidence in preparation for their exams. Tutoring Approach

I am committed to delivering engaging sessions and strive to inspire my students with the confidence and skills to reach their full potential. I am highly adaptable and ensure that my lessons are tailored to the personalised needs of the student with a strong focus on exam technique. I plan my tutoring sessions as I would a lesson in school; I employ a range of teaching approaches to develop both subject specific knowledge and skills, as well as general literacy skills. My sessions are presented on Google Slides and contain a range of interactive and engaging activities to ensure that students make excellent progress.

My current students prefer online tuition since this can take place from the comfort of the student’s own home and requires no travel time for either party. I can offer some limited in-person teaching for students local to Exeter. Please get in touch for more details.
