My degree - actor musicianship, is exactly what it sounds like - a blend of both music and drama. My career since 2007 has been working as a theatre maker - a performer, writer, musician, producer and director. I love the variety that my work offers. Despite loving the beach life in St Leonards a lot of my work is national, I work in theatres across the country. I also work as a babysitter/nanny and very much enjoy time spent with children, I find their company good for the soul and am always pleasantly surprised at how much we can learn from each other.
My teaching experience lies greatly in the early years sector. For years I was the early years music practitioner in the Blackheath Conservatoire in London. I have also done baby and toddler music classes for Nimbletots and run musical story-time sessions for the Royal Albert Hall. Alongside these sessions I have taught piano, flute and saxophone privately to children aged 4 and upwards and adults. I have held actor-musician workshops for older children and teenagers.
Music;
My priority is for my student to enjoy music. We can work towards grades if the student so wishes but I encourage composition and improvisation as well. It is a glorious liberty to be able to sit with an instrument and feel emboldened with the possibility to disappear into music for a while. Over the years it has been so interesting to see how each student learns differently. I take the lead from my students to nurture their unique approach. I will teach my students how to read music.
Drama;
Drama classes are a wonderful opportunity to release creative energy. I will listen to the students needs - it may be to explore stories and characters and to bring them to life. It may be to work on confidence, working on voice and breathing and posture...
Especially during these times of anxiety and confusion, a creative outlet can do wonders to make sense of things and bring a sense of release.
