Hi, I’m Sam! I’m a highly experienced private tutor with 10 years of teaching under my belt. I specialise in Maths (KS2 all the way through to A Level) and Philosophy (A Level and undergraduate level). I hold a First Class degree in Maths & Philosophy from the University of Bristol.
Over the past decade, I’ve helped students of all ages and abilities build confidence, achieve top grades, and even discover a genuine love for subjects they once found intimidating.
► Maths: From primary school foundations (KS2) through to GCSE and A Level, I’ve taught students at every stage.
► Philosophy: I’ve taught both A Level students and undergraduates, helping them sharpen their arguments, think critically, and write with clarity.
► I’ve also worked for educational charities such as Gateways, supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
My teaching style is friendly, patient, engaging, and tailored specifically to the needs of each student. My students consistently give positive feedback, and many have gone on to surpass their expected grades. Parents often tell me I’m not just a tutor, but also a strong role model for their children thanks to my academic background, professional achievements, and ability to meaningfully connect and engage with those around me.
Outside tutoring, I previously worked as a solicitor and prior to that was working in politics, so I know first-hand the doors that strong academic foundations can open.
I currently work as a musician (pianist and singer).

My teaching style is friendly, patient, engaging, and tailored specifically to the needs of each student. I work hard to:
► Build genuine rapport and connection, so students feel comfortable asking questions.
► Explain WHY a topic matters, not just how to get through an exam.
► Break down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps.
I particularly enjoy helping students who feel “stuck” or disengaged - especially in Maths. Too often, Maths is taught in schools as a box-ticking exercise for exams. I prefer to try and show students the bigger picture, making it far more enjoyable and motivating.
Parents often tell me I’m not just a tutor, but also a strong role model for their children thanks to my academic background, professional achievements, and ability to meaningfully connect and engage with those around me.
And just between us - I used to be a very cheeky student myself. I know all the tricks, and nothing gets past me!
