I'm a Financial Advisor, who's recently moved to London. I was born in Newcastle, so that's my football team, but I moved to Cambridge when I was 4 and have grown up in Cambridge for most of my life. My job at home is a Punter, who guides people down the river giving lots of stories about Cambridge University and making a fool of myself for the sake of entertaining the customers. I've always enjoyed maths right from a young age, and when I was in year 3 I got called a 'Maths Wizard' by my teacher, which I'm still proud of to this day!
I want to share this love for maths with others, with the hope that it rubs off on them all too.
I've spent a lot of time working with children: academically, through after school clubs and sports. Before university, I used to help my little brother with his maths homework and occasionally helped with his football club.
Since being at university in Bristol, I've done some voluntary work with an after school club that promotes healthy lifestyles through healthy eating and fun sports activites.
My general approach is very calm and methodical, and I'm aware that every child is different, so I tailor each approach depending on the situation. As I'm only 25, and have two younger brothers, one of which has just finished his GCSEs this year, with previous students, it's tended to feel like I'm an 'older brother' to them.
During the first week, I'd assess for areas to focus on and in the following week, we'd go through the topics until your child felt more confident.
We'd go through individual topics, either identified by myself as areas of progression or expressed by the Student as areas to work on. The majority of the work would be following exam-style questions throughout, as I believe this is the best way to learn maths and ultimately excel in the exams.
Should it be appropriate, I can provide extra work for the student to do in between weekly sessions too. This would give them an opportunity to attempt the work alone and unaided. We'd then discuss any areas the student struggled with in the following session.
