Sam

My name is Sam Alleyne, I am a 32 year old graduate in Mathematics from the University of Kent.
At school I was pushed to take 5 full A Levels which were Maths, Further Maths, English Lit, Physics and Economics. (Some of which I did a year before everyone else) I have always tried to keep both my academic and personal interests varied. I play basketball for Folkestone Saints and I am a big Liverpool FC fan.
I am definitely not a strict teacher and believe in the merits of discussion and participation by pupils to make the learning environment enjoyable as well as educational.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring on and off for 10 years now, I started with my little sister before her GCSEs and then decided I should start doing it seriously as I enjoyed it myself and felt I was having a positive contribution. My pupils have ranged in age from 13 to 50+ and some have been friends of mine and others were just responding to adverts. During my second year of University I also helped coach 1st years with their weekly assignments.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in a laid back approach to tutoring where the pupil can learn at the rate and intensity that they require, so that may be weekly lessons to help them top up their knowledge for a course or to help with homework, or indeed it may be intensive learning in the immediate build up to important exams. Every pupil is different, so I always try to be flexible with my approach to teaching individual topics and not stick rigidly to a predetermined lesson plan.
